Nu Zau – Dark Mirrors [Windmühle]

Windmühle presents the fifth pressing in its catalogue, this time with Nu Zau at the controls. Titled “Dark Mirrors”, the 12” delivers four fresh tracks while arriving in a limited number of only 300 copies and no repress. The mysterious label so far published amazing music coming from Alex Simori, Brind, Lizz and Cally, enjoying massive support from many established artists in the international scene.

Nu Zau is one of the most prominent figures in the Rominimal movement, having countless hours of mixing and studio time under his belt. Aside from the works delivered through his own Why So Series or Uvar, which he founded alongside Sepp around 2013, he also collaborated with BPLR Records, Archipel, Fear Of Flying, Aeternum Music, BP Mind Series, Memoria LTD, Movida Records, Castanea Records, Acmé and Curtea Veche, to name only a few. Recently, he’s been busy working on remixes for And.re & Aamir, Unisson and Szyszko while dedicating time to update his Bandcamp page with previously unreleased music.

Side A is dedicated to “Coconut Groove” and “Mirror”, two bright and melodic compositions that have a fair amount of swing embedded into them. Both cuts rotate with steady-paced drumming patterns, wobbling basslines and warm synth notes while the breakdowns reveal spacious arrangements. On Side B the mood changes and we can feel the tempo going up a bit with “Sunny Yummy” which unleashes a driving rhythm elegantly flavoured with alluring synth work and rich effects to go by with. Closing the wax, “Fri 14:00” is definitely darker, having a quirky syncopated percussion that leads various abstract background textures and complementary microlayers.

The stripped-down design of the tracks makes them perfect tools that anyone who loves minimal will surely enjoy anywhere, on the dancefloor or at home.
