Various Artists – double EP 2×12” [BPLR Records]

After last year’s debut with Priku’s three-tracker “In Control“, the Romanian venture BPLR Records returns with its second pressing, a 2×12” Various Artists compilation titled “double EP” which features four tracks signed by local artists Nu Zau, Mihai Pol, Vlf and Sepp. Organizing events since 2014, the crew behind Bipolar always managed to deliver good times to the party-goers, assembling amazing line-ups with well-known names in the scene as well as rising talents from the underground electronic music community in Romania and beyond.

The four protagonists of this VA have extended experience in the field of mixing and production, being active for quite some time now. Their releases are internationally known and have been played by many DJs at a lot of parties and festivals, so this material stands as yet another solid argument for their skills as they once more showcase their distinct sound, this time with a summer vibe embedded into it.

The first record of the package opens with “Luna Plina” by Nu Zau, an introspective melodic piece designed with a breakbeat-infused percussive core, deep resonating textures and spacious, chilled breakdowns. The atmosphere is eerie and the tempo perfectly balances the overall arrangement which can make one start drifting into cosmic realms in an instant. On the flipside we find Mihai Pol with “Submerged”, a more uplifting track set at around 125 BPM. The wobbling bassline elegantly merges with the steady-paced drumming while the background pads and effects help create a swinging rhythm, perfect for the dancefloor.

The second record kicks in with Vlf‘s “The Roundabout”, an elegant combination between the minimalistic and progressive aspects of house music, flavoured with warm piano notes, electric pads and vast tension building moments. The last cut titled “Tu Renasti” is delivered by Sepp and closes the release with a joyous, funky sound that reverberates through all the frequencies with style. A must-have for collector and selectors alike!
