Mihai Pol – Making Waves EP [Subtil]
After Vendi dropped “Meeram EP” in March, Berlin-based Subtil Records returns with its second pressing for this year with Mihai Pol at the controls. Titled “Making Waves EP”, the 12” features three dancefloor-oriented tracks with very well-knit sounds and a great groove. Another amazing statement for the imprint’s vision of modern electronic dance music.
Subtil Records was founded in 2014 by Nils Weimann and Martin Glowacz and so far collaborated with artists like Vrac, Lumieux, Cosmjn, Vlad Arapasu, Piktor and Iuly.B, amongst many others. The imprint also throws great parties with the latest taking place in Barcelona, Frankfurt, Prague and Berlin. More will follow for sure during this summer so stay tuned!
Mihai Pol already made a name for himself in the scene and is well-known for his engaging selections and state-of-the-art productions. His works have been brought forward by Tzinah, Trick Track Records, Synesthesia, Otaku, Feno Volana, More Than Music and Kapture. As a DJ he’s always on the move, delighting crowds in numerous locations around the world and building on his fingerprint sound.
Side A is reserved for “Lost Ark”, a wobbling and dynamic composition that flows at a steady pace while revealing deep and warm textures from time to time, perfect for those long after-hours. The subtle melodic arrangements in the background call for dancing, a feeling that is passed over and explored more on the B Side.
Here we first have the title track “Making Waves”, a cut designed with whirling sequences and melodic notes. The solid bassline introduces a faster rhythm, perfect for peak time moments at any party. Closing the wax, “Mentalist” goes in the same direction yet offers deeper atmospherics and colourful variations.
