Peshka – Oriental [Koi Series]

The third vinyl-only instalment coming up from Koi Series features two heavy minimal cuts signed by Ukrainian artist Peshka and a remix of the title track by local DJ and producer Arapu. Titled “Oriental”, the 12″ adds even more magic to the venture’s catalogue which so far published two amazing EPs from Cristi Murar and Core. Inspired by the symbolism of the Japanese Zen gardens, the imprint functions as a sublabel of Re.Face Records and aims to deliver solid underground vibes for electronic music lovers, collectors and selectors alike.

Mark Fevralsky aka Peshka is well-known for his collaborations with labels like Druzhba, Memory Remains, Re.Face Limited, Visionquest, Crocus, Body Parts, Susur, Whoyostro and Razom as well as for his numerous independent materials and remixes. His distinct style incorporates numerous influences taken from techno, house, deep house, minimal, dub, funk and ambient, always rendering vivid atmospheres, organic textures and engaging drumming patterns. For this EP he invites Arapu on remix duties, who settles for a strong dancefloor-oriented approach.

Side A features the title track “Oriental”, a steaming rollercoaster of emotion and sound designed with warm melodies and evolving background pads that smoothly intertwine with rolling percussive sequences and smooth rhythmic variations. On Side B we first find Arapu‘s reinterpretation, who adds a funky extra swing to the whole original journey, becoming more of a hands-up heads-down dancefloor weapon and “Mazamba”, which closes the wax with an uplifting electro/techno meltdown built around an impressive narrative, as all the layers keep twisting and turning, flowing smoothly with an exotic flavour delivered by the precise breakdowns.
