The pre-war Ukrainian electronic scene was one of the largest in Europe – a lot of famous labels, artists, DJs and locations, an amazing atmosphere on the dance floors and line-ups full of foreign celebrities.
With the start of the big Russian invasion, the situation changed radically – incessant Russian shelling of Ukrainian cities, economic decline, a large number of people who fled the war outside Ukraine, a curfew prohibiting night events, the service of many Ukrainian musicians and party makers in the ranks of the Ukrainian
army, non-dance mood – all this had a negative impact on the Ukrainian electronic scene.
Under these conditions, CULT.beat, the Odesa minimal sound community, is launching a project aimed at supporting Ukrainian musicians who remained in wartime in Ukraine and did not go abroad. The first guest of the project is Peshka – a talented musician and DJ from Mariupol, at the moment, completely destroyed by the Russians.
Peshka – one of the several aliases of Mark Fevralsky who represents the eastern Ukrainian music scene. His career commenced in 2014 when he won a contest at topdj.ua which landed him a gig at Kyiv’s former club Boom Boom Room. Around the same time, a military conflict took place in his hometown, which forced the artist to take a break from music for a few years.
At the end of 2016, Mark resumed working on his music project and released some of his work digitally, which laid a foundation for him as a house/techno artist. In May 2017, the first record with Mark‘s track – V/A was released on the Ukrainian label Crocus, which followed by three more on the Swedish Lyssna, the Romanian Susur, and the
British Banoffee Pies.
In 2018, his first solo EP – “Mood” (inc. VincentIulian & Vendi remixes) was released on the Italian label Re.Face, after which Mark gained recognition worldwide.
His music has been featured on platforms such as XLR8R, Played.by, Feeder.ro, Meoko, and others. In 2020 Peshka was signed to the legendary Detroit label Visionquest, which is owned by Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss, and Seth Troxler. In the Summer of 2020, 12 ” VA was released on British Alien Recordings, in November of the same year, another 12″ VA was released on Italian Mama Recordings (sub-label of AMAM). The most recent release of 2021 is the third solo album, this time with a remix from the Romanian star – Arapu.

Banoffee Pies.

CULT.beat [UA-based label] is a culture and music-oriented project which represents a series of conceptual club parties. Each party is like some story with the name, script, characters and proper atmosphere. While creating them we care about the pleasure for the body, mind and soul. Only combining all these components together allows us to make a truly exciting and memorable event, which we call “CULT.Beat”. For this purpose, we are inviting musicians, DJs, photographers, illusionists, VJs … anyone who could fit into the desirable concept.
After four years of the project, we organized more than 30th underground events, keeping each of them unique and different to previous ones. We’ve made 3D video projections, and organized “silent parties” where only written communication was allowed – by writing notes or by gestures. We’ve shown art-house movies and used audio and video samples from them in DJs performances afterwards. Also, we’ve invited musicians who played on jew’s harps, flutes, bongos, didgeridoo, bandura, and violin. They accompanied the DJs who played techno, tech house, minimal techno, and even dubstep.
So far we have invited the most outstanding artists of the underground techno scene from Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Argentina, Canada, Japan, Russia, Hungary, Romania and all over Ukraine.
The name of the project is based on two ideas: “culture” and “beat” (as a reference to a dance electronic music). Together they are representing the creativity and self-expression in music and in everything we do. The inverted “T” in our logo is a symbol of different thinking which turns upside down the conservative laws of ordinary club culture. Which experiments are waiting for us in the future? – we are yet to know …
