Core – Moartea unui ego [Koi Series]
Koi Series, an amazing side venture brought forward by the Italian team behind Re.Face Records, announces the second pressing in its catalogue to arrive very soon. The 12” is titled “Moartea unui ego” and offers three original cuts signed by the local artist Core and a remix of the title track by Sepp. The concept behind the series draws its inspiration from the Japanese Zen culture through the symbolism of the Koi fish, notably known for its presence in Southern Asia’s ponds or water gardens that serve as relaxation spaces that are perfect for meditation.
The story of the EP captures the Romanian producer’s moments spent travelling through the North Sea in 2017 which have been transposed into rhythms that are now ready to take you on a hypnotic journey into the realms of minimalistic electronic music. Following the aesthetic of the label’s first release “Andromeda” by Cristi Murar, the wax drops an organic sound, spiced with the best ingredients the minimal genre has to offer.
Side A opens with “Acid Holidays”, revealing a steady-paced evolving composition designed with a driving, morphing bassline and deep background textures in focus. The drumming patterns unfold an elegant progression while the overall balance provides a blissful resonance. Following, “Hertz” goes even deeper, bursting with an alluring aquatic vibration that can take you adrift vast distances, floating over an ocean of sounds if you close your eyes and feel the frequencies.
Side B unearths an organic progressive journey settled to spin around its bouncing effects at a low bpm through the original version of the title track “Moartea unui ego” while Sepp‘s remix charges up the tempo and reassembles the layers into a dancefloor-oriented tool, perfect for peak time moments at any kind of party. A must-have record for collectors and selectors alike!
