Direkt – Path Of Most Resistance [Subtil]
Berlin-based imprint Subtil Records announces their 20th release to arrive soon in the form of “Path Of Most Resistance” signed by local artist Andrei Popa aka Direkt. Packing three fresh and classy minimal tunes, the wax adds even more magic to the label’s catalogue which also features artists like Lumieux, Cosmjn, Julian, Vlad Arapasu, Piktor, Iuly.B, Mihai Pol, Vendi and Traumer, among others, as well as founders Martin Glowacz and Nils Weimann. The artwork is delivered by the talented Juli Jah, who enjoys a lasting collaboration with Subtil.
This year has been a busy one for Direkt who brought forward several top-quality productions through established labels and independent platforms like Bandcamp. His style has definitely matured, becoming more and more complex, intriguing and inspiring. Let’s explore his latest material in more depth:
Side A reveals “Past Present”, an entrancing composition flavoured with dark tones and quirky effects. The rhythm flows with organic precision while all the other layers swirl around it, creating a hypnotic effect that will make your body want to move in an instance. On the flipside we first find the title track “Path Of Most Resistance”, a mesmerising cut designed with warm textures and long-evolving variations. Here, there’s a spacious sound dimension that stands out, rotating through the frequencies while taking the listener into cosmic journeys. Closing the wax there’s “Vitamin”, an uplifting piece that has a solid minimal swing embedded into it. The breakdowns take their time to explore the subtle microlayers, building tension with energetic waves perfect for peak time selections at any kind of party.
