Direkt – Lagrange Point [Thinc]
Australian imprint Thinc announces the release of its first vinyl pressing in the form of “Lagrange Point” signed by local artist Andrei Popa aka Direkt to arrive on the 1st of July. The 12” features three original cuts and a remix by VincentIulian and already enjoys support from Arapu, Cally, Gescu, Giuliano Lomonte, Nu Zau, Priku, Sepp, Vlad Arapasu and others.
Founded in 2019, Thinc steadily grown an audience in Australia’s minimal scene and beyond, promoting quality electronic music and curating a series of podcasts which had as guests artists like Ardb, RWN, The Rabbit King, Kivva and Aoki Takamasa. Moving onto the next chapter of their journey, the label brings forward an amazing material from Direkt which draws its name from Joseph-Louis Lagrange’s celestial mechanics which describe the points near two large bodies in orbit where a smaller object will maintain its position relative to the large orbiting bodies. Working mostly with the minimal aspects of house and techno music, Direkt managed to rapidly rise in the scene as a DJ and producer, dropping hot EPs on labels like Yoruba Grooves, Botanic Minds, Questionmark Records, Vivus, Abduction and AtipicLab. You can also find more releases on his Bandcamp page.
Side A opens with “Lagrange Point”, a warm and spacey groove flavoured with all the necessary ingredients to start drifting while moving your body. The lush atmospheres and the percussion layers are perfectly balanced while the breakdowns offer spacious tension building moments. Following, “Ephemeris” keeps to the steady-paced rhythm, exploring even further the alluring combinations introduced in the first track through carefully crafted variations.
On Side B we first find VincentIulian‘s remix of the title track which gets stripped-down of some of the original elements and receives additional sounds, making the piece deeper and more mysterious. Closing, “Nova” reveals a darker and uplifting rhythm built with a solid bassline, eerie pads and crisp percussion. A must-have for any collector or selector right here!
