Vendi – Meeram EP [Subtil Records]

Berlin-based Subtil Records returns with yet another hot wax, this time French artist Vendi being the one behind the release. Titled “Meeram EP”, the pressing features three fresh tracks designed with stunning grooves, hypnotic melodies and elegantly arranged percussive elements. Early support comes from the likes of Rhadoo and Priku.

Founded in 2014 by Nils Weimann and Martin Glowacz, Subtil Records is well-known for its collaborations with Vrac, Lumieux, Cosmjn, Hansel!, Vlad Arapasu, Piktor, Iuly.B and Nunes. Always delivering quality minimalistic house and techno-infused gems, the imprint is also involved in organising amazing parties and inviting renowned artists to perform alongside the crew. The EP dispatched by Vendi makes a great addition to their catalogue, as well as to the artist’s impressive discography. With works published by the likes of Sleep Is Commercial, Body Parts, Uzvar, Silver Network, Inwave, Normandy and Ultrastretch, the French producer and DJ always delivers unique sounds that draw influence from a vast variety of music genres.

Vendi‘s versatility as an artist is also backed-up by his knowledge of playing several acoustic instruments since childhood, such as guitar, piano, bass, and drums. He started spinning records for his friends at private parties to then move to mix at various clubs throughout his hometown. Armed with dedication and passion for electronic dance music, as well as for experimenting with a multitude of techniques and styles, he travels and performs all over the world, sharing the decks with many top DJs in the scene. Lately, he’s been focused on launching his own imprint Black Sketch Records, as well as a new album with Sammy Dee under the band name VEEN. Stay tuned!

The EP opens with the title track, “Meeram”, a carefully crafted minimalistic and deep melodic cut, elegantly balanced with a steady percussion. The growling bassline sweeps the low frequencies while the background reverberates with dubby notes and bright textures. The ethereal feeling of this cut is set to evolve on the flipside, with “Hauskat” providing a groovy rhythm that adds more steam to the whole concept. Closing the wax, there’s the experimental sound of “Mybtch”, a heavily syncopated and uncommon composition that has a distinct, alluring vibe to it. Crossing the boundaries of genres, this is another statement for the artist’s creativity when it comes to music making and bringing forward something different and engaging.
