feeder sound exclusive premiere: Dudley Strangeways – Done Deal [Leftback]

The 13th release coming from Leftback‘s Intercities offshoot label brings forward four fresh digital delights signed by label head Dudley Strangeways and one steaming remix from TIJN in the form of RMD EP. Expect some solid low-slung rhythms and textures deeply rooted in minimal techno, perfect for dimly lighted dancefloors.

Dudley Strangeways is no stranger when we talk about the British underground electronic music scene, as his Leftback Records venture, built in collaboration with Michael McLardy and numerous other artists from all over the world, has definitely left its mark on the international sonic landscape. The catalogue includes timeless releases in both vinyl and digital formats, featuring artists like Annie Errez, Mortalyf, Empat, Micallef, Dragosh, David Gtronic, Matt Star, Cosmic Clap, Miller, Bunny CWC and, of course, In Haus Wax head chef TIJN, who’s on remix duties on this one and he sure delivers the vibes!

“The EP was made whilst locked away in North Wales, in a remote cottage for the week. It’s themed around someone linking drugs in Portishead from the pick up on Avon Way, Avon Links, to consuming the substance and moving to another dimension on Done Deal.”

Closing the EP and the story behind it, “Done Deal” drifts into uncharted sonic territories, laying out a twisted and experimental sound, designed with dripping beats, glitched layers and high-pitched synth stabs and modulations that create a distinct syncopated rhythm that keeps rotating into a hypnotic affair.

Built with the artist’s fingerprint sound, the other tracks reveal steaming stripped-back beats and thundering synth work, starting with the swinging layers of the opening track “Avon Links” dropping a mesmerising uplifting vibe, to the intricate arrangements of “RMD 01275” going deeper down the groove avenue. The reverberated vocals samples truly stand out as the breakdowns are usually built around them while some percussive elements still roll in the background, creating tension and suspense at the same time.

Following, TIJN explores a rather dynamic and immersive dimension of the original cut with his remix while “Speak Up” takes influence from old-school sounds, as the raw drumming patterns smoothly combine with eerie pads and intense drill effects that create a haunting atmosphere. A highly recommended EP right here for collectors and selectors alike!
