Octave – Middle Way (w. Pattern Tusk & mtps remixes) [Maru]
Australian label Maru returns with its 6th vinyl-only release featuring two original cuts from Octave and two remixes by Pattern Tusk and mtps in the form of “Middle Way” EP. As always, the artwork is signed by Raul Ciceu and the record arrives in a limited number of only 300 copies. Early support arrives from artists like Costin rp, userUNKNWN, Vlad Arapasu, Prajescu, Arapu, Barac, Sepp, Lulla and Gescu, among others.
With previous releases showcasing amazing music by Suolo, Lulla, Vlf, Prajescu, Petit Batou, userUNKNWN and Soyro, Maru stands as a beacon for top-quality minimal and microhouse music and is definitely nice to see local artist Octave joining the roster here. With intense activity in the international scene, the artist smoothly manages Need For Sound alongside Nima Gorji, he’s part of the Resonance team and released timeless productions via Low To High Records, Chelsea Hotel, Celo, Welter, Hubble Recordings, Fantastic Friends and Concept, to name a few.
Side A opens with “Deep Water”, a steady-paced minimalistic composition designed with warm and deep atmospheres, spacious breakdowns and swinging percussion patterns perfect for the afterhours or laid-back afternoon sessions. Following, Pattern Tusk‘s remix goes even deeper, laying out a cosmic rhythm powered by prominent background textures and a sturdy bassline that create a hypnotic effect.
On the flip “Newtechmin” reveals a twisted sound focused on its breakbeat-influenced drumming arrangements while the eerie pads and highly modulated vocals create a driving sonic affair. The closing remix from mtps switches gears, laying out a melodic journey that keeps some of the original layers as others are replaced completely with breezy chords and jazzy insertions.
