Miroloja – Kard [Hubble Recordings]
Hubble Recordings presents its third pressing in the form of “Kard” EP signed by French artists Julian and Gianni Ripoli aka Miroloja. The 12” features three original tracks and one remix dropped by Romanian DJ and producer VincentIulian, well-known for his releases with Naural, Metereze, Moment, Atipic, Liniar, NG Trax, Contemporan and Acmé, to name a few. Based in Portugal, Hubble Recordings functions as a vinyl and digital imprint and so far collaborated with the likes of Octave, Alex Pervukhin, Yuda, Marcelo de Almeida, Markus Horn, Bucurie, Lukea, Zgaav, Luhk, Coriesu, Primarie, Alexander Richter and others.
Julian and Gianni are passionate about electronic music since they were young. Based in Paris, the two brothers are definitely on the same wavelength, as you can rarely see them talking when they mix, being totally absorbed by what they are doing. Their sound incorporates various aspects from house, microhouse, techno and minimal, while their productions have been published by labels like Recordeep, More Than Music, Infuse and Kanja Records. They are also the founders and owners of the vinyl-only OLO Records, where they dispatched “Subtitle EP” in 2018 and a Various Artists Compilation featuring Silat Beksi, Olivian Nour and Paradoxal in October last year.
Side A opens with the title track “Kard”, a vibrant minimalistic piece designed for the dancefloor. The rhythm flows at a steady pace being powered by elegant micropatterns, subtle glitches and a funky bassline. The modulated vocal cuts add even more groove to the whole, while the build-ups smoothly introduce to different variations. Following, VincentIulian‘s remix takes the original into a hypnotic dimension forged with ever-evolving background textures and reverberated percussive elements. On the flipside, we first find “Novis”, a rotating stripped-down composition with a distinct synth arrangement in focus and “Room75”, a twisted track that exhibits a very engaging feeling. The solid low frequencies and the wobbling filtered effects complement each other gracefully, while the percussion leaves enough space for intricate build-ups to come into play.
