Vid – No Shadow EP [DUB Musik Limited]
After Mihigh‘s “Isolator EP” and the collaborative release “Berserkr EP” by Vadim Oslov and Denis Andreev, Italian venture DUB Musik Limited returns with its third vinyl pressing, this time inviting Romanian artist Vid to take over the frequencies with “No Shadow EP”. Designed with dark and intense chords, enveloping rhythms and hypnotic arrangements, the artist showcases his distinct style once again, bringing forward three fresh cuts perfect for dimly-lighted dancefloors. The record arrives in a limited number of only 300 copies with no repress.
With numerous works and projects dispatched under various aliases throughout time, Sorin Rastoaca aka Vid is well-known in the international underground electronic music scene as one of the pioneers of dark, low-slung and eerie minimal techno music. Among the labels he collaborated with we find Visage LTD, Hashplant, Modum, UVAR, Otaku, Pleasure Zone, Memoria Recordings, Brouqade, Sound Of Vast and his own playground An|dromeda, among others.
The title track “No Shadow” opens the EP with a steady-paced rhythm powered by ongoing tension-building sounds, spiralling effects and twisted vocal cuts. The breakdowns create subtle breathing moments yet the energy remains constant from the very first second to the last. In contrast, “Left” goes deeper into uplifting dimensions, dropping a steaming 126 bpm ride through spacious atmospheres and hard techno percussion layers. Closing the material, “Not Dark Enough” explores broken beats and wobbling basslines smoothly complemented by mysterious tones and long pads in the background. A highly recommended 12″ right here for collectors and selectors alike.
