Vid – OTK001 [Otaku Records]

Sorin Rastoaca is one of the Romanian producers that has been on the rise in the last couple of years. Since his first release on An|dromeda back in 2012, “Legacy / Lent”, Vid released 16 more EPs on labels such as Memoria, Brouquade or Pleasure Zone but his true legacy so far is his “Schite și Note” LP, a true masterpiece of electronic music.

Having this in mind, Vid is not stopping for one minute. His latest adventure is at Otaku Records, a new label from Italy.

Vid - OTK001 EP

The very clean and minimal design of the label (seen above) is suggestive of the approach Vid is trying to pursue with this latest effort. A minimal beat, blurry hi-hats, and some enchanting background sounds greet us on It’s All About Control, the first track. The strong but croaky vocals are suggesting we listen to the birds, but we can’t help but listen to that subtle but powerful enough bass line. We have a wonderful and complex effort carefully put together by Vid here.

Next, Daydream has the perfect title. Its mysterious and trippy noises make for a chilling atmosphere but when the bass kicks in, you truly find yourself in a dreamy state of mind. With some abundant 4/4 drums you can sense a more dancefloor-oriented feeling all over the place but at the same time, it has some lovely deep roots.

A little chaos never hurt anybody and you can enjoy it on Chaos Theory, the one that closes things off. The stream of sounds here goes towards a more serious and dark minimal techno track, well suited for a warm-up set maybe in a small underground club somewhere.
