Modebaku – Program EP [Perceive Records]
The fourth chapter in Perceive Records‘ discography is titled “Program EP” and features three fresh, hypnotic tracks signed by Vitas Merkel aka Modebaku, well-known for his intense activity in the scene as a skilled DJ, producer and manager of Hoxton Records, Dialogue London and Ú Series Records. The record will soon be available in a limited number of copies, with each cut dropping deep grooves and warm sounds flavoured with solid minimalistic vibes. The imprint’s previous releases delivered amazing music by Venda, Jos Lok and Soyro, with more to come in the future, so stay tuned.
Throughout time, Modebaku has also worked with labels like Ventriloc (split vinyl with Gabriele Mancino), The Senss, Whoyostro, LDN Trax, Unscene, Baile Musik, Teleport, Deep Tech Records, Yoruba Grooves and DubGestion, while delivering inspiring sets and podcasts with numerous publishers worldwide. This EP showcases his music-making skills once more, diving into bright and immersive soundscapes elegantly powered by steady-paced rhythms and carefully crafted effects.
On Side A we first find “Virus 002”, a bubbly composition designed with trippy pads and background textures that are smoothly complemented by vibrant stripped-down drumming patterns and spacious breakdowns. The variations are introduced by bright chords which evolve into a dreamy story, perfect for laid-back selections or the afterhours at any party. Following, “Program Select” switches gears for a more abstract and twisted sound, unleashing funky glitched sequences and swinging beats to lead the journey to the dancefloor while “120 Filter Tips” concludes the B-Side with a distinct sound that constantly builds tension through its meandering chord edits and spiralling effects. A highly recommended 12″ right here for collectors and selectors alike!
