Leeds-based vinyl-only label Pathway Traxx announces its next pressing to arrive soon in the form of Hollow EP signed by Australian artist David Harman aka Venda alongside local DJ and producer VincentIulian and label-head Niko Maxen on remix duties. Embodying the spirit of true house, techno and disco music, the imprint was founded in 2013 and published amazing materials by Jackmaster K, Deelicious, JWL, DJ Wild, Ray Mono, Kepler, Justin Pak, Nolga, LOy and Sun Archive, among others.

From Sydney to the world, Venda brings forward a deep and groovy minimal sound either we talk about his productions, remixes or DJ sets. Among the labels he worked with we find OLO Records, Saraw, Textures Ltd, Perceive Records, Modeight, Norse Projekt, Sobriquet, Subsonic Music, Mantra Collective and Unic’s sublabel Pământ. You can also find a couple of independently released tracks on his Bandcamp.

“Hollow” drops a stripped-down beat ingeniously complemented by intricate effects, twisted vocal cuts and spiralling basslines that blend into a hypnotic affair set at 125 bpm. The warm background textures create an eerie atmosphere while the quirky drumming sequences and microlayers are infused with a subtle funky swing. This detail is explored in more depth by VincentIulian who adds a wobbling dimension to the whole story while removing or taking out of focus most of the elements. In contrast, Niko Maxen‘s reinterpretation delivers a darker sound designed with an uplifting tempo perfect for dimly lighted dancefloors. Just as its title suggests, “Slowing” goes for an ethereal narrative, powered by a steady-paced percussive core, melancholic chords, dubby reverberations and spacious breakdowns.
