Vern – Danube EP [Rowle]
The sixth pressing in Rowle‘s catalogue is delivered by Romanian rising talent Vern who drops two original cuts on this material while Mihai Pol and Barut are working their magic on remix duties. Titled “Danube EP”, the 12” features a colourful uplifting sound with early support coming from the likes of SIT, Arapu, Raresh, Charlie, Herodot, Prichindel, Silat Beksi, Lizz, Barac, Cosmjn, Sepp, Nu Zau, Petre Inspirescu and others.
Rowle has been a beacon for quality electronic music from quite some time now, having a distinct approach when it comes to pressing vinyl which includes the amazing artworks of Juli Jah as a part of the whole concept. Managed by Dubfluss, the imprint so far collaborated with artists like Michael James, Jack Wickham, Tommy Vicari Jnr, Rowlanz, Niko Maxen and Viceversa while the sublabel Abduction released two VAs and one EP by Direkt since its foundation. Vern adds even more spice to the journey with his compositions, “Danube EP” being a carefully crafted sonic adventure, just like the other works the artist published with Lokomotiv, Re.Face or Joule.
On Side A we first find the original take on the title track “Danube” led by a breakbeat-infused drumming pattern and playful bleeping melodies. The background is designed with long bright pads and alluring effects, offering a truly hypnotic rhythm which builds on itself with every breakdown. Next, the re-interpretation provided by Mihai Pol switches gears, going for a full wobbling minimal vibration. Here, the funky modulated bassline falls into focus, resonating in perfect balance with the tension building arrangements. Smooth tool for any dancefloor right here!
On the flipside “Euxin” swings with a subtle progressive vibe, with an engaging percussion elegantly blended with spiralling background textures for a definitive cosmic journey. Barut‘s version is more punchy and additional synth work is introduced for a more dancefloor-oriented sensation. Tension is built with atmospheric breakdowns while the rhythm remains steady and dynamic. It’s easy to see why the wax already enjoyed so much support!
