Venda – Outer Range EP [Perceive Records]
Perceive Records returns with its 9th vinyl-only release with Australian artist Venda at the controls delivering an intense sonic journey deeply rooted in minimal techno and microhouse in the form of “Outer Range EP”. The 12″ arrives in a limited number of copies with no re-press announced. The Sydney-based DJ and producer also signed the label’s first release in 2020 titled “Nomad EP”, followed by amazing productions from artists like Jos Lok, Soyro, Modebaku, Vadim Oslov, Aron and Ali Demir.
Well-known for his releases with imprints like Subsonic Music, Norse Projekt, Modeight, Micronica, Mantra Collective, Verum, Saraw, Pământ by Unic, Sobriquet, Pathway Traxx, Room 15 and Sounds of Sirius, David Harman aka Venda surely delivers the vibes each time he touches the turntables or his gear in the studio. Expect a carefully crafted EP designed with uplifting and unique grooves, just as always.
Side A opens with “No Visitors”, a warm steady-paced cut designed with meandering chords, melancholic background melodies and beautiful deep house elements. Following, “Out Of Range” picks up the pace and delivers a more intense rhythm, continuing this musical journey with style. Here, the drumming continuously brews tension while the trippy effects play an important role in the arrangements.
On the flip we first meet “Claire”, a mysterious sonic affair perfect for the dancefloor. Like the timing of a clock, the precise percussion patterns generate an immersive groove while the overall stripped-back nature of this cut is engulfed in eerie textures and dark tones. Closing the EP, “Sun” dives deep into dub and microhouse influences, offering a chilled blend of sounds best fitted for early morning or afternoon sessions.
