Ukrainian artist Komponente returns to his vinyl-only record label TVIR with a solo EP titled “Sanctuary”, delivering five tracks that smoothly combine minimal techno, electro, breaks and acid in a fluorescent sound flavoured with experimental arrangements and genre-bending influences. The record adds even more magic to the imprint’s discography, which includes releases from artists like Amin Ravelle, Romar, Vid Vai, Guy From Downstairs and Tommy Vicari Jnr, as well as Kurilo, Komponente’s partner for the fresh Trance Pandemic project and label.

Komponente‘s creative path began at a music school in the city of Kupyansk where at the age of 6 he began studying piano before moving to Kharkiv, a city that’s now on the frontline of the Ukrainian-Russian war. It was there when through his father’s music programs installed on his computer he started playing and making his own music, with an accent on techno, trance, breakbeat and various other shades of electronic music. In time, he started releasing his productions via his own labels KIM, TVIR and Kultura Zvuka as well as collaborating with other outlets like Spaziotempo, Body Parts, Blindtone, Mung Records, Fach Label, Rednetic Recordings, Biatch Corp and Uzvar.

This EP is dedicated to his daughter, family and friends.

“The fact that a person opens up and shows who he is in sometimes difficult extreme conditions, this release is about the soul, about the spirit, about the fact that everything will be fine and war does not choose who is right and who is wrong. I dedicate this record to my friends, defenders who are now at the front, on the economic front, those who helped me and those whom I helped and Veronichka, whose daughter I did not want to experience this at 3 years old.”

Closing the EP, “Veronika” reveals an immersive composition designed with IDM nuances that deliver warm ever-evolving atmospheres and synth melodies carefully intertwined with a wobbling drumming pattern, spacious breathing moments and meandering pads that will make anyone start daydreaming in seconds.

The other tracks are slightly different as they share a higher tempo or density of the percussion elements while each one has a unique sound which, listened from Side A to Side B in a flop of the record, creates a sonic journey that’s truly amazing. From the swinging electric riffs of the opening cut “Gash”, the acidic and eerie take on “Flowers” and the mysteriously hypnotic rotations and mantras of the title track “Sanctuary” to the popping pew-pew’s of “Mind Revolt” laid across phased broken beats and hip-hop lyrics samples, the 12″ surely delivers a mesmerising approach to modern electronic music, going beyond genres while incorporating many.
