After a successful launch with Xandru and Suciu at the controls almost one year ago, Los Angeles-based record label Sofiamuzik returns with a steaming Various Artists compilation that brings together Nima Gorji, Guy From Downstairs & Funk E, Dragutesku and Yair. Headed by Justin Page and having Lucien Le Grub in charge of the artwork design, the imprint aims to deliver top-quality underground sounds for enthusiastic electronic music lovers worldwide with a sharp and carefully driven focus on minimal techno and microhouse.

Packing inspiring and uplifting rhythms and textures, SM002 VA showcases each artist’s distinct sound, ranging from uptempo compositions to straight immersive cuts that lounge deep into laid-back microhouse flavours. The compilation launches with Nima Gorji‘s “Masai Beach” which sets the pace by laying out an addictive swinging groove infused with traditional African chant samples, warm guitar melodies and a breezy atmosphere, perfect for the dancefloor. Up next, local artists GFD and Funk E drop the wobbling sounds of “24 Karafe”, an equally uplifting design with glittering synth stabs, jazzy cuts and an ever-morphing drive that make up the recipe.

On Side B, Dragutesku will take us all on a vibrant journey into the realms of daydreaming with “Drumetie”, blending some serious piano arpeggios into the track’s main sequence, which gets twisted around into a hypnotic carousel of textures and feelings. Closing the 12″, Yair’s “Hollow” dives into solid house affairs, taking influence from deep house, ambient and old-school elements in order to complete the record with style.
