feeder jukebox #22 selected by Atouck [Soundsphere]
Andrei Barbu aka Atouck is an electronic music producer and selector based in Bucharest, Romania. He’s also the curator of the Soundsphere project, which functions as a netlabel as well as an international platform connecting artists worldwide since 2012. With 33 releases and counting, the imprint brings forward downtempo, trip-hop, ambient and experimental music while organising events from time to time, with the latest Ambientwaves series reaching its fourth edition.
Atouck‘s intense activity in the scene spans for more than ten years now, time in which he explored various genres and styles, going from hip-hop to modern electronica. His passion for music and art determined him to activate as a multidisciplinary artist, combining the production process with mixing, graphic design, mixed-media and creative writing. In the last few years, he mainly focused on assembling a team to help him manage Soundsphere in order to become a beacon for electronic music in Eastern Europe and to promote niche sounds to the people. After a lot of hard work, the results surpassed the expectations as over 100 contributing artists from all the continents joined in and dispatched amazing compositions. With all the music being available for free under Creative Commons the project continues to grow while making a statement about the broken nature of the modern industry which dominates the trends as well as the artists’ creative potential.
He’s also the author of several EPs, the latest being released earlier this year in collaboration with contemporary writer Iulia Militaru. Titled “Atlas”, the album is designed with abstract soundscapes, field-recordings and alternative literary discourse sequences while also including a distinct live performance which has already been put into play in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine.
“The recording features tracks released solely through Soundsphere Netlabel, as well as a few personal compositions, carefully picked in order to deliver an immersive journey into the realms of ambient and experimental music.” – Atouck
feeder jukebox #22 selected by Atouck reveals a deep and intricate combination of solid dronebient and experimental cuts, incorporating grainy textures, spacious tone clusters and uncanny modulations. The alluring selection is flavoured by hypnotic vocal arrangements, filed-recordings and intentionally detuned patterns, ready to take one to the farthest reaches of the known sound dimension.
