After a long 3-year hiatus, the Hanover-based record label Malonian returns with its 9th release titled “Ride On EP” signed by Mental Carnival, a Berlin-based DJ and producer known for his inspiring releases with Muttis Mischkonsum, Tropical Twista Records, La Pena Shots, Rockets Audio and Default Machine.

The EP features 4 unique tracks that the producer made specifically for the dancefloor of the Romanian Sunwaves Festival. Because that’s where the idea for the label with the subtitle “Based on friendships which started in Mamaia” was born in 2014. As usual, the record comes with the imprint’s typical artwork and full cover. Early support arrives from artists like Ricardo Villalobos, Zip, Margaret Dygas, Sonja Moonear, Raresh, Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu, Dan Andrei, Praslea, Fumiya Tanaka, Barac, Fabe and Arno, among many others.

Side A opens with the title track “Ride On”, a hypnotic minimalistic composition powered by a solid bassline that falls into focus and leads all the layers into a groovy dimension. The swinging drumming patterns and the eerie background textures create a mysterious atmosphere here while also having enough drive to make the track perfect for peak time moments at any party. Following, “Distorted Memories” dives deeper, going for a punchy four-to-the-floor sound that hits like a hammer. Time to dance!

On the flipside the journey continues with “Open Minded” which takes the vocal highlights from A2 in a rather different direction while the broken beats create a thundering roar. The closing track “Drew The Line” switches gears a bit, providing a truly distinct swing, as the background arrangements smoothly blend with the breakbeat into a meandering sonic affair. Just make sure this record ends up in your bag or personal collection, it’s definitely a must-have!
