feeder sound exclusive premiere: Matuss – Mer De Soleil [Absence Seizure]

NYC-based imprint Absence Seizure returns with another EP signed by label co-founder Matuss titled “Seizure No. 13”, a dreamy four-tracker designed with deep and melodic house rhythms and textures. Arriving in a limited number of copies, the material also includes vocals by Brooklyn-based singer and songwriter Sophie Buskin and a remix delivered by Silent Surrender. Established in 2015 by Julia Matuss and Abe Duque in order to bring forward their own productions, the vinyl-only platform also collaborated with artists like Alexi Delano and Karina while enjoying constant support from well-known names in the scene.

Born in Ukraine, Matuss discovered music at an early age, being only six years old when she began her piano and saxophone lessons. After finishing school, she travelled the world as a dancer for huge acts such as Junior Vasquez, Armand Van Helden and David Guetta. It was during a conversation about music with Louis Botella that she decided to take his advice and learn how to mix. Since then, she dedicated a lot of time exploring electronic dance music, performing in countries like Luxembourg, Switzerland, France and Italy, opening for headliners like Danny Tenaglia, James Zabiela and Deep Dish, amongst others.

The track packs a blissful summer feeling, aiming to take over the dancefloor with solid bass and percussion, alluring synth notes and warm string instruments. The composition slowly evolves into a totally uplifting and hypnotic journey which also includes a snipped vocal pattern that evokes the artist’s Ukrainian roots and influences while helping with building tension at the right time.

Opening Side A there’s “Continuum”, a deep slow-burner that properly introduces the EP with a genuine house-oriented sound. The bassline stands out, reverberating over the laid-back drumming and atmospheric shifts, leaving enough room for the spacious background to fall into focus from time to time. On Side B we find both versions of “Solicitors Are Welcome” featuring the soothing voice of Sophie Buskin, with the original revealing a mesmerizing minimalistic and emotional build and the remix offering a more progressive take by Silent Surrender.
