The Unfinished Bucharest Visual Arts Festival includes the World Press Photo Expo 2016 as one of its main pillars – but also expands into art, storytelling and digital evolution by partnering with major artists, institutions and content creators across the globe.

A lot of great content produced by photographers, visual artists, filmmakers and digital artists has been overlooked by photography and visual art festivals. Multimedia stories, interactive documentaries, games, virtual reality experiences, video and interactive installations will converge under one festival umbrella and engage diverse audiences.

“Art is a process. Not a message, not a product, not a frozen bubble of time and space. The cycle that begins with the artist responding to stimulus – whether a story from the world around us or an experience within – is one that never ends. The act itself expands through thousands, maybe millions of interactions – from the public, from today’s stories, from the art it connects to, from the changes in the artist itself. With everyone that experiences the creative act, the art changes. That’s how “unfinished” came about.

Because the created art is only the beginning of a conversation involving its creator and the public – one that never ends. And that’s what we look for with this festival: continuous cultural engagement. Beyond the three festival weeks we want to keep this conversation going through the dialog we start, through our online presence and through the other events we’ll organize throughout the year” – Cristian Movila, founder and director of the festival.

The Unfinished Bucharest Visual Arts Festival will offer a unique international platform for a dialogue between traditional photography and visual journalism, visual art and film joined by the exciting content made possible by the latest innovations in technology.

Through the talks program the content presented in the exhibitions will be discussed and put into context by journalists, scientists, data artists and policy makers.

The festival will also provide an opportunity for photographers and artists to network and get training in new markets.

Pioneers in visual journalism are pushing the boundaries of journalism and creating new standards for the industry. We are working directly with the content producers who have dedicated significant time to developing stellar narratives.
