Pelle – Slapdash Intermission [JCE]
The first record to arrive from the freshly founded record label Joy Came Early or shortly JCE features three steaming cuts signed by Dutch artist Pelle and one remix from Man/ipulate. Titled “Slapdash Intermission”, the record delivers an intriguing combination of tech house, microhouse, acid house and breaks that will make you wiggle your legs in sheer delight.
A seasoned DJ, producer and audio engineer at Time Item Studio, Pelle has been making waves in the underground electronic music scene for quite some time now, having numerous performances, projects and releases under his belt. Throughout time, he collaborated with labels like Picnic Records, Ovnie, Vekton Black, Uwaga, Infuse, Format Recordings, Rooted Series, Partisan (alongside Herra as pH Project) and his own playground Karton, founded back in 2011 together with David van Bilderbeek.
Side A opens with the title track “Slapdash Intermission” laying out a groovy sound designed with thrilling chords, a pumping four-to-the-floor beat and dissonant acidic synth stabs that add extra energy to the track. Following, Man/ipulate takes the original into a spiralling dimension, giving it more drive through the swinging hi-hats layer and more acid with the overlayed pads.
On the flipside we first find the uplifting rhythm of “Double Standard”, a steaming composition that brings warm textures into focus while keeping to the energy of Side A while “Ghosting” closes the 12″ with a deeper vibe powered by a solid bassline, thumping drumming patterns and eerie underlying melodies.
