KHIDJAZZ # 6 – Sambata 24.02.3007
invitat: DJ CUEBISM

Born and raised by a family of jazz and latin musicians it’s no surprise that cuebism picked up quite a knack for black music – in fact music is and always was his life, love and passion. Growing up with the sounds of Joao Bosco , Gilberto Gil and John Coltrane pretty much set cuebism’s path through the recordstores to come. Of course it was not long until Hiphop entered his shelves and made him feel at home, being surrounded by all those samples he knew from his parents’ collection. After years of listening, he changed sides and started playing as well. There was the piano, the drum, all kinds of percussion and there was the turntables.
Ten years after first wishing to become a DJ – in 1994, he finally got his first two turntables and immediately started tampering with them in front of various crowds across Europe. The following years Cuebism picked up a wide variety of electronical music, always looking for those pieces aside the main road with strong amounts of soul, funk and latin elements. He garnished his selections with cross-references to his musical roots, spiced them up with a bit of turntablism and served these menues on his weekly radioshows “Boulevard Beatnik” and “Soular Energy” on legendary german DJ Radio Evosonic. After a while cuebism was fed up with electronica, took on this weird artist name and turned his full attention back to the past which led him to discover the incredibly underestimated potential of late seventies NY underground disco music. He sold all his belongings and started spending every single dime on silly looking disco 12inches, some of them so silly looking he even put them up on the walls for his exhibition “Learn Disco” in Hamburg 2004. Now again Cuebism serves steaming selections of his latest finds on the radio, this time with his new show “Ebony Cuts” on Hamburg’s Tide 96.0 FM as well as online on ebonycuts.com and metronomic-family.com. He is now living in Stockholm and still spends his entire time and cash looking for dusty old discobreaks – a quest without and end in sight.
Cuebism is currently working on a plethora of fresh re-edits and other jewels to share with his worldwide friends. New residencies are also in the pipeline in his new city and new international dates are in preparation for the winter.
Make sure to check Cuebism’s remix of The Tape vs RQM ‘s Minimal on the excellent Renovations double cd’s on Tokyodawn besides works from Henrik Schwarz, Analogue Haze, Maddslinky, Confort Fit and many more…
