Idriss D‘s latest EP marks the 50th release on his label Memento Records, a well-known imprint that has welcomed many incredible talents over the years since it was launched in 2006. After the success of his “Lunatic” EP in 2020, he’s now back with the sequel “Lunatic 2” alongside Gilb’R on remix duties. This material combines elements of electronica, breakbeat, jungle and drum & bass to push genre boundaries in a way that he has become globally renowned for.

Idriss D grew up surrounded by music, with his grandfather and uncles being talented musicians in Algeria. His love for disco, soul and funk grew from a radio show he listened to every evening and the influence of his DJ friend Nadir. In the ’90s he discovered the club scene in Alger and was asked to play for the first time at Rais Hamidou Club by DJ Chafik after his set. Since then he moved to Italy then Germany, held down several long-standing residencies at some of the world’s most respected venues, built his label platform Memento Records and solidified his name as a respected international artist manager through his dbArtists agency.

“I’m proud to announce Lunatic 2 EP arriving soon on Memento Records, a versatile and different approach to my usual sound, focused on breakbeat and jungle music. While the first part was released in collaboration with DJ Sotofett during the Covid pandemic, the second chapter of this story invites Gilb’R to join in with his distinct sound, a combination of old-school and modern sound, transposed into a more downtempo version of my original composition. This release will be available in both vinyl and digital formats.”

The original mix of “Lunatic 2” drops an incandescent and uplifting sound that incorporates a melting pot of dreamy atmospheres, introspective melodies and shuffling drum & bass grooves that smoothly combine with soulful vocals in order to formulate a romantic journey that will leave you pleasantly daydreaming from start to finish.

The remix from Glib’R, the founder of Versatile Records and one-half of Chateau Flight, reveals a stunning contrast to the energetic nuances of the original, delivering a more downtempo structure, highlighting the track’s laid-back rhythms and subtle perpetualism, emulating a Balearic vibe flooded with silky sonics and wistful energy.
