Blank Code is a Detroit-based record label that has featured underground techno from some of the biggest names in the game such as Truncate, Drumcell and Bas Mooy.
Their new EP is a six-track digital VA titled ‘M4 Compilation’ includes music by more top talent from around the world, featuring Brian Sanhaji, Luis Flores, Takaaki Itoh, Linear System, Max Gardner and one of the label co-founders, Anthony Jimenez.
Altogether, the artists on this magnificent release have appeared on labels like Chris Liebing’s CLR, Heiko Laux’s Kanzleramt, Edit Select Records, Ben Sims’ Symbolism and Emmanuel’s ARTS. That is a list of elite imprints and it goes a long way to showcase the quality that has been curated to contribute to this outstanding package.
Having picked up support by DJs including Marco Bailey, Dave Clarke, Amotik, The Advent and Pan-Pot, the tracks have caught the ears of some of the scene’s biggest players which is impressive to get their assured seal approval.
A couple of standout tracks for us begin with “Vital Blind” which is from respected Japanese artist Takaaki Itoh. He has feafured on Developer’s Modularz and Lewis Fautzi’s Faut Section. With a warm, analogue sound, the stabbing bassline and metallic percussion also have shimmering modular bleeps to create a frantic and funky groove that’s experimental and dance floor ready.
Spain’s Linear System also made a huge impression with “Shape Shifter” following releases on Ben Sims’ Symbolism and Edit Select Records. It’s a raw and tense ride with a menacing and slightly dark sound made from grungy electronics and gritty drum elements.
