“Study of Letters,” a captivating paper painting by the graffiti artist Roper, is a dynamic exploration of anti-style and letterform innovation, unfolding on the unique canvas of paper. In this distinctive artwork, Roper pushes the boundaries of conventional lettering, weaving a mesmerising tapestry of earthy tones, sharp edges, and rebellious energy.
Each letter in “Study of Letters” becomes a work of art in its own right, contributing to a harmonious yet daring ensemble. Roper’s artistic genius shines through as he navigates the delicate balance between the chaos of jumbled letters and the precision of sharp edges. The result is a visual language that is both intricate and cohesive.
Arrows, strategically placed, guide the viewer through the labyrinth of letters, adding a dynamic element to the composition. The interplay of arrows and letters creates a sense of movement and direction as if each stroke is a deliberate step in a rebellious urban dance.
Roper created a limited series of 15 works, titled “Study of letters”. The technique used was an alcohol markers on paper, which means that even though we are talking about a series, each 42 x 30 cm is unique.
