ERPS – “București II“, spray paint and markers on canvas, 140 x 70 cm, 2021
Titled “București II”, this original canvas is a powerful example of Romanian graffiti at its core, painted in 2021 with spray paint and markers signed by graffiti legend ERPS. The painting stands as both a collectable artwork and a direct connection to Bucharest’s underground visual culture.
Created as part of “Erpstamentul”, ERPS’s solo exhibition hosted at Galeria Neagră in Bucharest, this large-format piece highlights the artist’s unmistakable lettering style, bold, compact, and rhythmically charged. Thick outlines, sharp cuts, and internal arrows give the letters a sense of constant motion, while the explosive multicoloured fills pulse with energy, echoing the city’s raw intensity.
Active since 1994, ERPS emerged in a grey Bucharest and became one of the city’s most consistent and respected graffiti writers. His ability to execute complex, large-scale works in remarkably short timeframes, often pushing physical limits and defying sleep, has become a defining trait of his practice. Over the decades, his lettering has coloured the urban imagination, leaving a lasting imprint on walls, trains, and now canvas.
“București II” captures that relentless drive and technical mastery, translating the urgency of street bombing into a refined yet uncompromising studio piece. It is an essential work for collectors seeking authenticity, history, and the living pulse of Bucharest graffiti culture.
