Primavera Sound reveals the line-up for its forthcoming edition. The programme of events will take place mainly in the Parc del Fòrum of Barcelona from Wednesday 1st to Saturday 4th June and will be complemented by a large number of concerts in various sites in the Raval neighbourhood, which means that music will be on offer for the whole week. More than 150 bands and artists that will dazzle audiences and complete the outstanding offer with a multitude of genres in which there will be something for everyone.

The long-awaited live show by the British band Radiohead, the stage comeback of the New York group LCD Soundsystem, fronted by James Murphy, the presence of a rock icon of the calibre of PJ Harvey, the return to the festival of the Tame Impala, from Australia, at the height of their career and the dreamy, experimental rock from the Icelandic band Sigur Rós are the most prominent names in the star-studded line-up.

The retro futurist pop from the French duo Air, the alliance of Alex Turner and Miles Kane in The Last Shadow Puppets,Brian Wilson performing “Pet Sounds”, the Beach Boys’ masterpiece in its entirety, dream pop by the Americans Beach House, two different shows by the British band Suede, experimentation from Animal Collective, one of the first live performances by the legendary virtuoso of horror John Carpenter, post rock by Explosions In The Sky, the stage comeback of the pioneers of hardcore Drive Like Jehu, ethno pop from Beirut, noise rock by the mythical Dinosaur Jr., Richard Hawley’s classicism and one of the key bands in the development of contemporary independent music, Deerhunter, are some of the main draws of this sixteenth edition.

The festival will welcome a wide range of figures from one of the most creative genres of the moment: hip hop. Pusha T presenting his excellent new record, Action Bronson from New York, Vince Staples (critically acclaimed last year for his album “Summertime ‘06”), Street rap by Freddie Gibbs, punk-tinged hip hop by the adrenalin-fused Ho99o9 and Jay Rock, one of the West Coast stars of the moment, will be some of the representatives who will visit the Parc del Fòrum.

The list of heavyweights from the current scene does not end there. There will also be jazz from Kamasi Washington, name of the year, maths rock from the Battles, the author of one of the most outstanding albums of 2015 Julia Holter, powerful rock by Savages, Dan Bejar with Destroyer performing “Poison Season”, Daughter’s indie pop, synth-pop from the dynamic Chairlift, electronic pop by Neon Indian, the former member of The Go-Betweens Robert Forster and Ben Watt accompanied by Bernard Butler.

Guitars have always been to the forefront in the festival, this edition once again caters for all tastes: soul rock from Royal Headache, punk by Beach Slang, the pioneers of metal Venom, heavyweights such as Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees, Sheer Mag’s between punk and seventies’ rock, waves of post punk by Parquet Courts, intoxicating anthems from Titus Andronicus, Algiers’ superb pastiche and noise metal from the legendary Unsane, among many others.

The electronic section is headed by the German superband Moderat, presenting their new album, the live rendition of “Elaenia” by Floating Points, Hendrik Weber’s project Pantha du Prince and Kiasmos, the duo formed by Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen in which they give free rein to their definition of dance music. The DJs at this edition go from the Maceo Plex’s 4/4 to DJ Koze and DJ Richard and the wild rhythms of Hudson Mohawke, passing through that style-blender from Glasgow called Optimo (Espacio). On the more experimental side of things Evian Christ, Alessandro Cortini, collaborator of Nine Inch Nails, and Holly Herndon stand out. Not to mention the electro funk by DâM-FunK and the pioneers of electronic music Cabaret Voltaire.

A multitude of sounds and styles will be present on the stages of Primavera Sound 2016: from Lubomyr Melnyk’s continuous music to kraut by BEAK>, from the experimentation by Boredoms to soul by The James Hunter Six, from the Afro-Cuban sound of Orchestra Baobab to the legendary Turkish singer Selda, from the unclassifiable instrumental rock of Tortoise to the psychedelia of the Swedish band Dungen, from the kiwi pop by the cult band The Chills to the R&B of the promising British artist NAO, from Mbongwana Star’s unclassifiable Afro sound to the pioneers of dream pop A.R. Kane. The showcase that will be curated by David Tibet and Current 93, where they themselves will perform, accompanied by Six Organs Of Admittance,Baby Dee and Angel Witch, also deserves a special mention.

In the national section the presentation of Manel’s new record, the presence of Los Chichos, flagship of street rumba, Joana Serrat with her third album that crowns her as one of the best singer songwriters on the scene, PXXR GVNG’s urban revolution and the Barcelona band Inspira riding on the success of their recent release “Greta” stands out. With them, rhythmic noise byFasenuova, guitars from Aliment and The Saurs, new R&B by C. Tangana, oneiric pop by Nothing Places, Holögrama’s electronic kraut, the elegant live performance of Autumn Comets, Viva Belgrado’s post rock and screamo and folk pop byAlberto Montero.

On Wednesday 1st June in the Parc del Fòrum, there will be the popular free inaugural day headlined by Suede and their charismatic frontman Brett Anderson. Alongside the British band, psychedelic tribalism by the Swedish band Goat, Southern sounds from Grupo de Expertos Solynieve, pop with hints of post punk by El Último Vecino and everyday anthems from the Barcelona band Doble Pletina will be the other protagonists on this fantastic opening evening of concerts.

Although Primavera al Raval will begin that Monday, a new initiative that will transport almost the entirety of its ever-expanding complementary programme into the neighbourhood with performances throughout the week, thus reasserting the organisation’s firm commitment to offer quality contents to all audiences. The programme will include everything from the grunge of the American Mudhoney to the experimental rock of Psychic TV/ PTV3, also including special shows such as the solo concert by Bradford Cox from Deerhunter, the edgy guitars of Black Lips and Downtown Boys, the stage comeback of Madrid’s Mar Otra Vez and SG Lewis, one of the most promising voices on the current British scene, not to mention a cross-section of the best of the local panorama, with names like CARLA, Bearoid and Power Burkas.
