O colonie de organisme cucerește spațiul Sandwich.

Obiectele – ghicitori ale Mariei Pop Timaru sunt de fapt aceleași cu cele din jurul nostru, însă mult mai prezente și mai zgomotoase. Un puzzle neterminat și obositor, bucăți de realitate în încercarea de a fi ordonate. Traseul printre ele poate fi amețitor, iar când descoperi că Mașina Timpului e de fapt o mașină de tocat puțin mai mare situația poate deveni dramatică. Din fericire, în capătul tunelului așteaptă faimosul Oracol, dar și o poartă pentru cei norocoși.

O varietate de lucrări hiper-calorice – dintre care shaormele mici cu de toate sunt în spotlight – îți dau mai mult decât erai pregătit să accepți. Maria Pop Timaru nu pune frână când vine vorba de materialități și senzații, de personaje absurde sau fantastice, de materiale kitsch și ironii. Piese din ceramică glazurată – mediul preferat al artistei, obiecte gonflabile ușoare, butaforii, cârnați în oțetar. E prea mult și știm asta. Dar în loc să scoatem, adăugăm. Astfel încât Sandwich-ul dă pe afară, se revarsă în lumini colorate pe terasă și în curând și în afara ei.

Maria Pop Timaru trăiește și lucrează în București. Practica sa artistică include sculpturi, instalații, obiecte de ceramică și performance, având o puternică relație cu lumea cotidiană, pe care o traduce cu ironie și umor. A studiat sculptura la Universitatea de Arte București, unde a obținut și un Doctorat în Arte Vizuale, și s-a specializat în ceramică sub îndrumarea Eugeniei Pop.

sandwich valorifică potențialul ascuns al unui spațiu rezidual dintre două construcții utilitare și folosește limitele constructive ale acestuia pentru provocarea unor noi soluții. sandwich funcționează ca spațiu independent de artă, din aprilie 2016.

A colony of organisms conquers the Sandwich space.

The riddle-objects of Maria Pop Timaru are in fact the same ones as those surrounding us, but much more present and loud. An unfinished and tiresome puzzle, pieces of reality in an attempt to order. The path among them can be unsettling, and when you find out that the Time Machine is actually a slightly bigger meat grinder, the situation can become dramatic. Fortunately, at the end of the tunnel awaits the famous Oracle and also a gate for the lucky ones.

A variety of hyper-caloric works – the small shawarmas with everything definitely being the stars here – give you more than you were prepared to accept. Maria Pop Timaru does not hit the breaks when it comes to materialities and sensations, to absurd or fantasy characters, to kitsch materials and ironies. Pieces in glazed ceramics – the artist’s favourite medium, light inflatable objects, props, sausages up in the tree. It’s too much and we know it. But instead of removing, we add. Thereby Sandwich gets overfull, it floods the terrace which might soon leak as well.

Maria Pop Timaru lives and works in Bucharest. Her art practice includes sculpture, installation, ceramic objects and performance, all of which have a strong connection to everyday life, which she translates with irony and humour. She studied sculpture at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, from where she also received a PhD in Visual Arts, and she has specialized in ceramics under the guidance of Eugenia Pop.

sandwich reclaims the hidden potential of a residual space between two utilitarian buildings and uses its own constructive limits in order to provoke new solutions. sandwich functions as an independent art space since April 2016.
