Evenimentul este conceput ca o întâlnire cu artistul Lucian Bran și echipa proiectului: autorii textelor din carte Magda Radu, Augustina Stanciu, Monica Stroe și Bogdan Iancu, cu graficianul Alin Cinca, și coordonatorii proiectului Alexandra Manole și Matei Caltia.
Lansarea de carte face parte din seria de evenimente Bucharest Art Week.

Platoul de filmare american s-a mutat încă o dată în România. Aici echipa de filmare găsește peisajul potrivit scenariului unui film despre istoria familiilor Hatfields și McCoys din West Virginia–Kentucky. Ei împrumută locurilenoastre pentru a le servi perfect construcției cinematografice. Astfel, peisajul renunță la a fi un spațiu de contemplație și devine unul al acțiunii și retrăirii momentelor istorice.
Aceste spații “împrumutate” de regizor pentru compunerea și realizarea filmului sunt preluate și cartografiate de Lucian Bran în fotografiile sale. Venind pe urma producătorilor, Lucian reface scene fără actori, în care peisajul – folosit în film ca fundal – devine personajul principal.
Fără a mai suprapune istoria străină locului autohton, fotografiile rămân în acest context mărturii ale unei narații exterioare și ale alterării sau completării spațiului virgin. Peisajul este văzut între natural și artifical și devine un “peisaj scenografic”.

Preocupată de înțelegerea și studiul peisajului, Galeria Posibilă prezintă artiști ale căror lucrări permit discuții specifice artei contemporane și domeniilor conexe. În programul curatorial, aceste discuții sunt generate de interesul artiștilor, pictori și fotografi, pentru subiecte precum: identitate, transformare și memorie.

Borrowed Territories
The American movie set has once again moved to Romania. Here, the team finds the landscape suitable for the scenario of a movie about the history of the Hatfields and the McCoys of West Virginia – Kentucky. They borrow our places as they serve them perfectly for the cinematographic construction. Thus, the landscape ceases to be a space of contemplation and becomes one of action and reliving historical moments.
These spaces “borrowed” by the director for the composition and the making of the film are taken and mapped by Lucian Bran in his photographs. Following the producers’ trail, Lucian redoes, without the actors, scenes in which the landscape – used in the movie as background—becomes the central character, a subject of contemplation.
Without making the foreign history overlap the indigenous place, the photographs remain in this context testimonies of an external narration and of the alteration or filling in of the virgin space. The landscape is viewed between natural and artificial and it becomes a “scenographic landscape”.
”I was interested in landscapes where there had been no human interference and their timeless appearance, the fact that a landscape might change very little over a period of 100 or 1,000 years and that the people don’t get to witness these subtle changes. I was also interested in what the identity of a place meant, how this changes in time and how a place stores a collection of memories. And then I remembered the TV series that had been filmed near Brașov and how all these ideas had been offered up to me on a silver platter. I’d been given the perfect opportunity to work on something I’d been looking for for a long time.”

The launch will take place on Saturday, November 12th, 7pm, at Galeria Posibilă, located at no. 6 Popa Petre Street. The event is conceived as a meeting with artist Lucian Bran and with the team of the project: the authors of the texts in the book — Magda Radu, Augustina Stanciu, Monica Stroe and Bogdan Iancu, illustrator Alin Cincă, and the project coordinators Alexandra Manole and Matei Câlția.
The book launch is part of the Bucharest Art Week series of events which take place in November, between the 4th and the 12th.
