Dragosh – Perfect Timing EP [Leftback Records]

Dragosh – Perfect Timing EP [Leftback Records]

Romanian techno icon Dragosh is back with another 12”, this time Leftback Records being the publishing label. With three original tracks and a remix signed by the imprint’s founders Michael McLardy & Dudley Strangeways, “Perfect Timing EP” is another statement for Dragoș Halangescu‘s dedication to electronic music.

With a release catalogue that includes names like David Gtronic, Randall M, Groovesh, OCH, Kashawar, Matt Star, CNTRL, TIJN, Matthew Burton, Harry McCanna and Chris Boardman, the deep and sophisticated sounds that Dragosh brings forward make a great addition to Leftback. Immersive textures and groovy beats mixed with elegance perfectly describe the artist’s compositions. On a dynamic schedule, Dragosh has released an important number of works lately, original tracks and remixes, on labels such as No Time For Love, Memoria Recordings, Curtea Veche and Otaku Records. These add up to the productions that have been dispatched by Disuasiv, a side project that includes Andi Parlogea.

“Perfect Timing EP” delivers minimal and unconventional rhythms that were designed as an expression of experimenting with deep tech sounds. A next step in his career as a producer, this release demonstrates the artist’s versatility when it comes to studio time. As a Dj he showcases pumping exotic rhythms, blending various flavours of house and techno music, just like the enchanting selection he played for our feeder sound series.

Side A opens with “Josum”, a grainy rhythm composed of various layers of small glitched cuts that swirl around a hypnotic percussion. The vocal cuts and the raw bassline create a clipping flow of dusty frequencies that slide sublime as the track plays. Next we find Michael McLardy & Dudley Strangeways‘ remix, a bleeping sound that keeps to the minimalistic construction of the original track, yet presents different modulations of the background textures.

On Side B, the title track “Perfect Timing” is more groovy, having Dragosh‘s signature elements imbued in the track. Deep and long pads mixed in with dubby chords and a rolling 4/4 grungy beat smoothly reflect the sound of the Romanian minimal tech and the artist’s unique approach to it. Closing the wax there’s another micro experiment titled “Bad Idea” delivering a heavy sound in the fashion that Side A did. Designed in low tempo, it has a more relaxed rhythm, as the rotation of the layers progresses more slowly. Another beautiful work!
