Take 5 – Elon

We sat down with NYC producer and ReSolute boss Elon to discuss the Brooklyn scene, his label ReSolute, his latest release on Panick!Panick! & more. Read what he had to say below.

 

Joseph Barnes: You spoke recently in your 6AM interview about all the different subcultures of electronic music in Brooklyn. Have you explored many of these and what impression have they left you with?

Elon: Yes, went to check out lots of new venues over here, some I’ve been trying to avoid… it’s overwhelming for someone that hasn’t gone bananas for a while! 

Joseph Barnes: What can we expect from your ReSolute label this year?

Elon: Nothing really,  I much rather focus on my own music than dealing with pressing, distribution and all other bs.. the last release (resolute 010) would be the last one for the next year or two… 

I have new exciting projects and collaboration coming out and I want to give that full attention.

Joseph Barnes: What is your favourite venue to play in Brooklyn?

Elon: Aside from a monthly residency at TBA, I love playing Panther Room (Output) it has the intimate vibe with big sound, the stuff is always on top of everything… no technical issues of any kind.. just pure fun playing there.

Joseph Barnes: What can you tell us about your new release on Panick! Panick!? How did it come to be? What was the motivation behind it?

Elon: I recorded all three tracks as a jam, just one stereo channel, I didn’t plan to release it, I was just having fun at the studio… 

All three tracks are very different in style, but still have something in common, it hasn’t been mix-down aside from some boost with the Thermionic Culture Vulture.  

Joseph Barnes: What would you say are the main differences between releasing your own music on your own label versus releasing music on someone else’s label?

Elon: You do have more creative control when you release on your own label but It is much easier to release on other labels, you don’t have to deal with the distribution, PR and tons of other shit that can drive me nuts! 

Joseph Barnes: You have collaborated with Maceo Plex in the past and the Nest EP features several collaborations. Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with haven’t had the chance to yet?

Elon: David Bowie.
