Misbits’ Pick: DJ Cream – MPC Trips [Smile & Stay High]

Going beyond those clichés with half naked ragazzi yelling tifosi songs on the dusty DC10 dancefloor or the monotone Marco Carola techno, there is much much more about the Italian electronic underground than we’ve imagined until now. And who could have been thinking that Bologna could hide this old skool house aficionado like DJ Cream?!

Because this is what his Smile & Stay High imprint is all about: phat baselines, groove drained from analog drum machines and Chicago-esque voices destined to start fire on the most pretentious dance floors.

The first release on this above mentioned label, MPC Trips (guess what gear did he use in producing this EP) is aimed to please those clubheads hungry for pure house music. You can imagine Kerri Chandler playing the opening track My Choice. You can imagine your guts making way up towards the throat, helped by the pumped up kick from In Da Archive. You can imagine loosing your sense in the lush textures of Sunday Track, DJ Cream’s take on classical deep house. You can imagine drifting away on the Got My J‘s subtle chords, kept in contact with reality only by the sick percussions.
