After a three-year hiatus, American record label Muted Noise returns with its seventh vinyl-only release featuring two original cuts by Russian artist Sapurra, alongside two remixes from Adam Collins and label head Halo Varga, who also signs the artwork. The mastering is provided by RV Audio.

A well-known figure in Moscow’s underground scene since the late ’90s, Sergey Sapunov aka Sapurra is a DJ and producer whose sound incorporates tech house, dub techno and minimal influences. Often characterised by dark, looping textures and a delicate balance between hypnotic grooves and more melodic, ambient passages, his works have been published via labels like Pro-tez Records, Poker Flat Recordings, Artreform, Heisenberg, MixCult, Snaza, Nervmusic, Tamizdat, House Dessert, OHM Series and Plant 74.

Launched around 2016 by Halo Varga, Muted Noise is based in San Diego, California and focuses on the modern aspects of house and techno music, so far publishing timeless titles from artists such as Alex Piccini & Proudly People, Lisière Collectif, Herck, DeWalta, Sublee, Dieru, Faster, Daniel Chavez, Roger Gerressen & Joiah, Livio & Roby, Per Hammar, Enzo Siragusa and the H-Foundation duo (Halo & Hipp-E).

Side A opens with the title track “Half Dead”, laying out a warm and vibrant composition drenched in nostalgia. The meandering synth arrangements smoothly blend with a steady-paced rhythm, a solid bassline and introspective vocal samples that create immersive breakdowns. On the remix, Adam Collins switches gears for a more groove-focused vibe, where the stripped-down percussion merges with dancefloor-ready insertions best-fitted for warming up the party.

On the flipside, “May Taurus” reveals a hypnotic rotation designed with wobbling chords, a weaving bassline and sharp electric stabs that permeate through the core drumming sections. The atmosphere becomes a bit darker, making the track perfect for late-night sessions. Halo Varga‘s remix takes the journey even deeper, adding an extra boost to the frequencies, as well as acidic elements that carry the original into a moving musical limbo where light and darkness collide and reverberate even more.
