Erwin returns to his playground Arepas Records with “Iberian Cuts EP”, revealing the 3rd chapter of the label’s signature concept, which revolves around blending dancefloor grooves with culinary-inspired storytelling presented like a course on a tasting menu, complete with food-themed titles and artwork. The collectable design concept reflects a collaboration between Mikalo Studio and Daria Rosso.

Headed by Florian Rietze aka Erwin and sharing location coordinates between Berlin and Copenhagen, Arepas Records is a boutique label dedicated to deep house, minimal house, breaks and ambient, bringing forward nuanced, dancefloor-oriented music with an introspective edge.

Over the past decade, Florian studied audio engineering and has a broad knowledge in music production, sound design, synthesis and composition. After some time as a DJ and live act in the Berlin club scene, he finally made the leap to the international stages, performing at various clubs and events across Europe. Among the labels he has so far collaborated with we find Möhre, Click Records, Music For Balearic People, Leveldva, Delicieuse Musique, Steyoyoke, Ayasur, Concorde Club Recordings and Amselcom.

“As well as AREPAS001 and AREPAS002, this EP tells a culinary story. This time, we are taking a culinary journey to Portugal. I spent most of the COVID-19 pandemic in Portugal and fell in love with the culture, the people and the food. This EP takes me back to that time, and it gives me that feel of a fresh Atlantic breeze during the wintertime.” – Erwin

AREPAS003 opens with “Caldo Verde” laying out a vibrant yet warm house-infused sound, fueled by slow-burning depth and nostalgia. The track sets the tone and welcomes our featured exclusive premiere of “Bacalhau”, which steadily gains traction as it drops meandering piano pads, dubby chords and a punchy drumming core, perfect for energetic mornings or hazy afternoons.

Next, “Medronho” eases the pace, delivering a chugging rhythm smoothly complemented by ethereal piano arrangements and crisp textures, while “Pastel De Nata” provides a soft, sweet release rooted in acid house and deep house elements. “Bica” closes the circle with a relatively dark, sharp and lingering atmosphere where fading beats meet crunchy synth work and acoustic instruments.

“The label brings together my two biggest passions, good music and good food. My productions reflect everything I’ve experienced so far, from my multifaceted creative work and time in the studio with other artists, to my travels and exposure to different cultures. The idea behind the label is to build a community of like-minded producers, each bringing their own signature sound and flavour. We’re already accepting demos, and I want to encourage producers to send us their tracks.” – Erwin
