premiere: Dietmar – In Rotation [Archipel Musique]

feeder sound exclusive premiere: Dietmar – In Rotation [Archipel Musique]

After his 2024 debut on Archipel Musique with “Abrasive Softness”, Dietmar returns to the label with an equally immersive release titled “In Rotation”, exploring the realms of minimal techno and experimental music. The mastering is signed by label head Pheek.

Hailing from Austria, Dietmar is a forward-thinking sound designer, DJ and producer who surfs the sinewaves across an expansive array of analog and modular hardware, keeping his sound rooted in minimalism and experimentation. Among the labels he has so far collaborated with we find Archipel, WEorUS and Simple Things Records. He’s also part of the Viennese nomind artist collective alongside Välth, Wanek and Siili, pursuing the arts and aesthetics of minimal techno and microhouse in a contemporary context.

Based in Montreal, Canada, Archipel Musique is an independent electronic music record label founded in the mid-2000s by Pheek. The label is best known for its focus on minimal techno, microhouse and experimental electronic music, releasing both digital and physical formats. Its mission has always been to build a community-driven platform for artists, showcasing a wide range of styles within the underground scene. “This EP reflects different phases of my production process and brings together a selection of tracks that have stayed “in rotation” for me and my friends since my first release on Archipel. While some tracks are more deliberately arranged, others capture a more recent approach, shaped by live recording and the use of hardware. I’m interested in creating an organic, almost acoustic feel, without relying too much on sampling or imitating acoustic instruments. At its core, the EP, and my music more broadly, remains grounded in traditional house and techno rhythms and patterns.” – Dietmar

“Tela” opens the release and sets the tone, laying out a stripped-back rhythm powered by shuffling drumming patterns, a solid, pulsating bassline and weaving synth effects that come in and out of focus. As the track flows, it breathes, warps and evolves, going through organic modulations that create a hypnotic atmosphere.

Following, “Fly” dives deep into experimental, delivering an almost tactile sound where bleeps and crackles shape the beat and the background textures morph into a fluid, ever-shifting sonic fabric that feels alive. Next, “Hummel Im Haus” channels a raw, mechanical energy, with machinery-like grooves and looping abstract arrangements that twist and turn over themselves, creating a sense of controlled chaos within a tightly restrained framework.

“Ewigdreher” softens the edges with warm, enveloping pads that continuously evolve, while subtle vocal cuts buried deep in the mix give an immersive, almost subconscious twist to the whole journey. “Murmur” is built around a sharp, dissonant pulsation in the foreground, while the background unfolds through pitch-stretched vocals and blurred textures, forming meandering shifts in the core structure that create an introspective, inward-looking soundscape.

“Harmonica” closes the release with a precise clockwork drive. Here, metronome-like clipping snares, crisp kicks, and a growling bassline form the backbone, while sparse, eerie vocal cuts create an ethereal layer that resonates with warm chords, only to slowly dissolve into a lingering analog haze.
