The 10th instalment in Curtea Veche‘s Serii Speciale welcomes Ukrainian-Greek artist Fedo, who drops four stripped-back minimal heaters built for the dancefloor. CVS010 lands in a strictly limited pressing, continuing the enigmatic aura of the label’s offshoot vinyl-only series, which already features equally mysterious titles from artists such as Percunta, TSN, Tijn & Dudley Strangeways, Tijn & Daines, Suinyl, Gathaspar, 100 Hz and Reboot.

UK-based label Curtea Veche is widely known in the international electronic music circuit since it first stepped into the scene back in 2015. Focused on publishing top-quality, vinyl-only minimal techno and microhouse, the imprint runs a main catalogue alongside two side hustles, CV Limited and Serii Speciale. Among the collaborating artists, we find Kirik, Oscar Pink, Herck, Sepp, Dragosh, Guy From Downstairs, Silat Beksi, Daniel Broesecke, Einzelkind, Giuliano Lomonte, Tulbure, Louie Fresco, Nu Zau, Tijn, Suburbial and H-Foundation (Halo & Hipp-E), to name a few.

Sergey Fedorov aka Fedo has been making waves lately, bringing forward several solo EPs, remixes and podcast sessions. Always driven by curiosity, texture and rhythm, he constantly developed his signature sound, bridging decades of experimentation with the modern aspects of minimal techno and minimal house. Aside from numerous independent releases, his productions have been published by labels like Artreform, Inermu Wax, Chippy Chasers, Lilas Records, BodyParts, Micro Orbit, Atrium, Juuz, Dubøka Records, Razom and Sounds of Sirius.

Side A opens with “Ms M” laying out a vibrant, stripped-down rhythm elegantly complemented by haunting pads, eerie vocal samples and twisted effects that amplify the track’s potential as an opening tool for forward-thinking DJ sets. Continuing the journey, “Don Be a Sick” raises the tempo a bit, unleashing a swigging groove built with shuffling drumming patterns, heavily modulated background textures and carefully placed vocal cuts that add even more tension to the whole.

On the flipside we first find “Adios Gena”, a low-slung composition focused on percussion. Here, the beat and the bassline lead all the complementary layers into a hypnotic rotation imbued with sharp synth inserts and a multitude of micro samples that create a funky sonic affair. Closing the record, “Cake Not Fake” slips into otherworldly dimensions, offering a downtempo sound designed with broken beats and jazzy elements that create an alluring soundscape, perfect for the afterhours.
