Finetune – Impulse [Sengiley Recordings]

Sengiley Wax announces the third instalment in their Russian Series to arrive soon in a 2×12″ vinyl-only package featuring 10 tracks signed by electronic musician and mixed-media artist Michael Dop under his Finetune moniker.

Titled “Impulse”, the album is based on the eponymous multidisciplinary project and live show created at the intersection of art, music and neuroscience by Finetune in collaboration with STAIN Digital Art Studio, NeuroLab, a visionary AI-driven research initiative and the theatre ensemble of non-sighted artists Dances in the Dark (Tantsy v temnote). The performance was designed to explore perception beyond sight, merging sonic experimentation with an immersive, cross-sensory experience in which all the components become extensions of the human body and mind.

At the core, we find NeuroLab’s brain-computer interfaces, which capture the brain activity of visually impaired dancers in real time. These signals are transformed into generative visuals by STAIN, while Michael’s musical composition synchronises with both the performers’ neural rhythms and the visual flow, forming a unified audiovisual environment.

Michael Dop is a painter, designer, DJ and producer who chose to merge his passions for art and music into a single creative stream rather than choosing between them. In 2008, he co-founded the Slowdance art project, which gradually evolved into a record label, a creative community and an event series dedicated to conceptual electronic music. A decade later, he launched his Finetune live project, blending modular and classical synthesisers, acoustic instruments, field recordings, drum machines and groove boxes to craft a rich auditory palette that spans ambient, IDM, minimal and deep electronica while incorporating elements of jazz and neoclassical composition.

Impulse LP offers an immersive and coherent journey into experimental music built with hypnotic sequences, polyrhythmic structures, cinematic textures and subtly shifting modulations that blend into resonant and organic sonic landscapes where time becomes relative. The material features interventions from Sasha Bartashevich and Iskandeor Hannov on two of the tracks.

Created and curated by Denis Kazakov in 2020, the Russian platform Sengiley Recordings acts as a digital and vinyl record label, focused on delivering various genres of electronic music and contemporary art.
