Getting To Know… Bri Buckle & Marmajam

Getting To Know... Bri Buckle & Marmajam

f: Hi guys, it’s a pleasure to chat with you today. How are you?

Bri & Marmajam: We are great, thanks, hope you are well.

f: Please tell us a little about yourselves, where you’re from and how you started making dance music?

Bri: Hi I’m a DJ producer from Harrogate, North Yorks. I’ve loved everything about house music and its culture since I started going out! After I had been DJing for a while, it seemed like a natural progression to learn to make my own tunes.

Marmajam (aka Baz): The same as Bri really, I had a passion for music really early on in my youth, mainly 70s and 80s Soul, Funk and Sisco, with a sprinkling of Pop music! I met Bri 4 years ago, when we set up Funk My Life and always wanted to make music, but never had the tools or knowhow, Bri unlocked all of my wildest dreams.

f: How did you meet?

Bri & Marmajam: We met when mutual friend Daz Jones (AKA Mister Jones) and Bri set up FML and asked Marmajam to jump on board. The rest is history!

f: Who did you listen to growing up and do they influence your music career at all today?

Marmajam: I think I touched on it previously, but mainly undiscovered funk, soul and disco when I was younger, but then eventually got into house music, thru at the time Graham Park and Back2Basics in Leeds.

Bri: A lot of my musical knowledge comes from going out on drives with my mum when I was 7 or 8 and she would play Roy Orbison and stuff like that. As I got older, I started to put coach parties on to famous club Shindig in Newcastle. That’s where my love of house music really comes from.

f: How would you describe your sound?

Bri & Marmajam: Our sound is definitely a Disco infused House kind of vibe.

f: What was your first release?

f: Which of your own tracks or remixes was the biggest labour of love to create / personal favourite?

Bri & Marmajam: For both of us, we have to say… ‘The Power’, not just because it’s on release, but we genuinely LOVE the track and love the time we put into making it.

Bri: This one for me, as it got me a bit of a breakthrough being played at Elrow by De La Swing.

f: And your most successful release?

f: You’ve just landed on the Muscle Funk label with your fab new release, ‘The Power’, what we can expect to hear?

Bri & Marmajam: Uplifting house track with smooth vocals, a deep bassline and dreamy piano overlay. Space Disco House this one!

f: The single also includes a remix from Atari Safari, what did they bring to the table?

Bri & Marmajam: A great remix should always be somewhat different to the original, too many times you hear something very similar. This is anything but, deep synths, infectious grooves lead to thoughts of Pina Colada’s by the pool, cool as FUNK. We both absolutely love it.

f: What’s your favourite piece of studio kit?

Bri & Marmajam: The ATOM SQ is a brilliant bit of kit for programming drums in!

f: Who does what in the studio?

Bri & Marmajam: Baz makes the tea and I provide the biscuits!  Bri is the arrangement guy, Studio one and him are never far apart, Baz is the musical one, always bringing fresh ideas to the table.

f: As DJ’s, what have been your highlight gigs and where are you most looking forward to performing soon?

Bri & Marmajam: For the last 3 years, we have played Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza, played B2B at the love2be festival for the last 2 years and have put on acts such as Utah Saints, K Klass and Graham Park at our monthly FML parties. Our 4th Birthday party this year is one to look out for. We have a real UK house music hero.

f: What can we expect from a typical Bri Buckle & Marmajam DJ set?

Bri & Marmajam: You can expect a journey through Disco to House to even Tech.

f: Tell us about Funk My Life.

Bri & Marmajam: We started FML 3 years ago, wanting to put a night on for the people, we have since progressed to gigs at festivals, Ibiza and New York and even Grimsby! We have loads more to come… we are just getting started!

f: Which dance track holds the most precious memories for you?

Marmajam: Asha JJ Tribute. First 12 inch I ever bought with my own dosh.

Bri: ‘Pennies from Heaven’ Inner City, heard this in Ibiza years ago and still love it to this day.

f: Who are your top 3 current producers?

Marmajam: Da Lucas, Dave Lee and Dr Packer.

Bri: Daniel Steinberg and Kevin Mckay.

f: What else are you working on that you can tell us about?

Bri & Marmajam: We have loads of stuff we are working on at the moment, a new disco track called ‘Watcha Wanna Do’, we can’t wait for people to hear this one. Loads more in the pipeline, just really enjoying it at the moment. Thank you for having us.

‘The Power’ (Incl. Atari Safari Remix) will be released on Beatport exclusively on February 20th / Full release on 6th March 2026 on Muscle Funk.
