An intoxicating sound full of pulsating rhythms and enchanting melodies lands at the doors of Ben Jones ‘Parallel Circuit‘ label, as DJ and producer extraordinaire t.na sees in the latest chapter in his upwardly mobile musical journey…

t.na, has been working his magic within the dance music scene for over 20 years. Originally from Manchester but now based in London, his stellar career began behind the decks, where his ability to join the dots between House, techno, electro, minimal, and breaks saw him play in some of the world’s most celebrated dancefloors. His curiosity with music production eventually developed into the founding of Pickled Music, along with affiliated labels Into the Woods, Afterwoods, Occult Vision, and Taste the Rainbow Records, which have all put out some top-quality dance records in the past few years. The curiosity wouldn’t end there, as t.na ventured into music production himself. Heavily inspired by the early 2000s tech house sound, t.na’s sound is one of sublime, progressive rhythms; thought-provoking and considered melodies; and an overall atmosphere of joyous momentum, perfectly blending minimalist sensibilities with multi-faceted, layered features – all of which provide his music with lasting intrigue and with a profound sense of depth and meaning.

The ‘Ivan’ EP is yet another step onward, and as an experience, it is tailored perfectly for late-night dancefloor excursions and early sunrises. As soon as the title track begins, the anticipation goes sky high, with a rock-solid beat interspersed with a bass note that bellows from the deep. Cosmic, technological sound effects add a certain complexion and feel up top, with a sprinkling of melodic features placed atop the mix with grace and feeling. The earworm of a mid-range key line is the winner here, perfectly finding its way into the heart of the track and propelling things forward. ‘Reeves’ comes next, and this number follows a similar trajectory to the opener. A pulsating beat provides the foundation for a hypnotic bass line to weave in between the grooves, as airy pads shift in the background. This number is all about the little things, with the softest of changes opening up the most exciting of new horizons.

‘SC’ comes into view next, and the feelings remain high. A rumbling bassline wobbles underneath a cascading rhythmic section, with twinkling, unravelling melodic notes lapping over the top. The breakdown around the halfway mark provides a perfect midpoint for the track to pivot and shift gears, with a distinctive character coming to the fore within this section. To wrap things up, ‘Cezza’ sees out the journey with gusto. One final hypnotic beat to wrap around the dancefloor, subtle melodic motifs simmer through the backdrop, and an overall atmosphere of hands in the air, can’t get enough of it energy – it’s a fitting end to a record filled to the brim with t.na’s signature swerves and energies.

t.na has built a sound based upon his musical passions and wide-reaching interests, and his distillation of these has conjured up a sound that is powerful, purposeful and joyous. ‘Ivan’ is yet another fine showing and contains all the hallmarks of his style.
