This Friday, we’re heading to S.A.S.H in Sydney to explore the Australian underground electronic music scene, with Nicholas Zarb and C29STY at the controls.

Sharing a strong passion for stripped-back, deep and hypnotic minimal, Sydney-based DJs Nicholas Zarb and C29STY (Christy) craft thoughtful sets that aim to inspire and reward careful listeners on the dancefloor. Together, they co-founded sense., a collective pushing minimal techno and microhouse to the Australian electronic music scene through memorable events and podcasts, with guests such as Venda, Nu Zau and Sepp of UVAR, Mantra Collective founder Whitecat, Katharine (Motion Theory), Primarie (Tzinah) and Beckhauser (Fratii.ro).

Drawing influence from the Romanian sound, Nicholas Zarb always aims to tailor his selections to suit each booking, while bringing something unexpected and versatile to the dancefloor. His style currently gravitates toward the darker and hypnotic side of minimal, elegantly complementing Christy‘s musical curation and intuitive storytelling, a seasoned selector originally from Glasgow who immersed himself in the world of vinyl and underground sounds from an early age.

“This set was symbolic for us. After meeting earlier this year, we connected over a shared love for the stripped-back minimal sound. Since then, we’ve built a collective to showcase this side of our sound, hosting three events, one of which featured an international artist at one of the country’s best venues, Carousel. To have achieved all this in under a year, and then playing together before a Romanian artist, felt really special. Many late-night calls and hours of digging went into finding what we felt were the perfect selections for the night. Every track reflects our journey, our taste, and the energy we wanted to evoke on the dancefloor, hopefully inspiring a few people in the crowd that night.” – Nicholas Zarb & C29STY
