Dr. Nojoke’s “Inpi Mari” is a minimal techno work about the loss of paradise due to plastic waste
Inpi Mari is Dr. Nojoke‘s third EP in a series about fictional islands that are about to sink (after Kakawawa and Oiroa, both on Klangscheiben), in which he describes musically the conflict between consumerism and hedonism with the need to act and take responsibility in a complex rhythmic and melodic pattern with a detached melancholic note.
It’s no secret that we have a huge problem with plastic waste. However, our societies and economic connections are so complex that it seems almost impossible to avoid. We have images in our minds of floating plastic carpets the size of entire countries and paradise beaches littered with plastic waste, not to mention the nanoparticles in our food chain.
Inpi Mari sounds chic and aesthetic like plastic from the factory, with seductive grooves, but also sad because of the helplessness and powerlessness.
