The Peruvian electronic music scene receives a boost of energy and inspiration, as DJ, producer and half of Saint & Don’t Music, Ricardo Rueda aka He Did, dispatches his second full-length album titled “Otra Historia” through Lima-based record label Cavilar.

The LP incorporates 12 tracks designed with uplifting percussive arrangements, immersive complementary textures, carefully-placed breakdowns and subtle local motifs that create an organic flow fueled by intricate minimal techno and experimental nuances. Managed by Alejandro Cuestas, Cavilar is a Peruvian record label exploring the far-off edges of electronic music, rendered through the senses.

Well-known for his constant activity in the underground scene, He Did has definitely left his mark on modern electronic music, always spreading the good vibes as a selector, producer and curator. Aside from his first LP dubbed “Permaneced“ released back in 2020 via Pheek‘s label Archipel, over time, he crossed roads with labels like Capodopere, Drumma, Tied, Ukiyo, Detroit Vinyl Room, Ipsum Records, Pool House Black, Purple Print and Minim Records while his collaboration with Kike Mayor under the Saint & Don’t project definitelty stands out as one of the finest worldwide.

“Otra Historia started with a bunch of old projects I had saved, ideas that had been sitting there, waiting. When I entered a new stage in my life, I felt the urge to go back to them, not with a plan, but just to reconnect. I didn’t approach this album with any particular style in mind. For the last few years, I’ve simply been sitting down in the studio without overthinking genres. And without trying, this ended up being one of my happiest and most danceable releases. I wasn’t trying to make a happy album, it just turned out that way. Life was changing, and the music followed. It makes sense, though. The album came together during one of the most beautiful moments of my life – my wife’s pregnancy and the birth of our daughter. That’s where the name Otra Historia comes from, because that’s exactly what I’m living – a new story.” – He Did

The LP opens with the deep and surreal swing of “Mayo”, followed by our featured track for today, “Sin Regreso”, which lays out a steady-paced rhythm powered by a hypnotic rotation of synth bursts and bleeps that elegantly combine with dreamy pads and weawy chords into an enveloping vibe, perfect for late-night sessions on the dancefloor. Next up, “Imaginación” slides into dub territory while keeping a tight grip on the drums, while “Octubre” strays into the twilight, offering an uplifting amalgamation of precise, jazzy cuts, wobbling basslines and sharp frequency shuffles.

Pushing the tempo, “Su Poder” drops a solid wavecatcher, as the prominent drumming patterns smoothly mingle with electric arpeggios and eerie pads, contrasting “Convicción”, which brings down the bpm and exposes heavily phased vocal samples that merge into a dubby groove. When “Coincidencia” kicks in, we return to the heat. Pressure has been laid out, and now it’s time for dancing. Expect a drop of psychedelia on this one.

“No Mires” emphasises the wavy structure of the album, delivering a melancholic vibration, just as “Coldbrew” bounces back into a higher tempo defined by possibilities and metamorphosis. As expected, “A Quien Escucho” dives even deeper into uncharted sonic fields, bringing forward a cerebral, psychedelic groove perfect for peak-time moments at any party, anywhere. “En El Camino” and “Antes Que Yo, Tú” provide extra power to the flow, making this LP a must-have for selectors, collectors and enthusiasts alike.
