Bread & Butter – Primal Dream (w. Silat Beksi remix) [ABC LTD]

Romanian DJ and producer Mihai Moldovan aka Bread & Butter returns to his label ABC LTD with “Primal Dream” EP alongside Silat Beksi on remix duties. The record marks the 4th entry in the label’s catalogue, which set sail in 2018 with Lisière Collectif‘s “Route Du Nord” EP followed by Mihai’s “Dub Police” EP and a Various Artists compilation titled “ABC Collective”, both released in 2023. Based in Arad, the imprint also hosts regular showcase events under the name ABC Events and features inspiring podcasts by both local and international artists.

Bread & Butter has been a constant presence in the Romanian underground scene for quite some time now, always delivering top-quality minimal and microhouse through his DJ sets and releases. Over time, he’s been part of several projects and published his music independently or via his labels Always Bring Cash and ABC LTD, as well as Saraw, Implimind, Fratii.ro, H24 Musique, Nada Espacial, Fantastic Friends Recordings and Metronome Records. Mihai is also 1/2 of the Request Line duo alongside Stan.

Side A opens with “Since Forever”, a low-slung piece flavoured with dark tones, grainy effects, steady-paced drumming patterns and a mysterious vocal sample that comes in and out of focus throughout. Following, the title track “Primal Dream” maintains the groove, laying out a stripped-back composition with a percussive drive, best fitted for nighttime sonic affairs.

On Side B first there’s “Clarified Butter”, a hypnotic cut infused with subtle dub textures and rotating background atmospheres that create a sense of depth and motion at the same time and Silat Beksi‘s remix of B1 which takes the original into a spiralling auditory experience designed for dimly lit dancefloors.
