Gojnea76 – Punisher Braila [Future Electronics]

Romanian artist Gojnea76 returns to his label Future Electronics with another outstanding EP titled “Punisher Braila”, marking the 3rd release in the catalogue. With some tracks already tested on the dancefloor and causing some serious stirrings, it’s easy to say the material has been long-awaited to arrive on vinyl, as the sound is built for peak-time pressure, it’s direct, effective and ready to do damage.

Also known as G76, Florin Gojnea has been active in the local electronic music scene for over a decade and has steadily built an international reputation through his unique DJ sets and releases on Playedby, Apotek Studio, Midi Records, Anbu Music, HPLS Records, Nervmusic, Castanea and Naural. Exploring music in all its variety, he actively combines various styles and genres into distinct sonic narratives, going from immersive leftfield journeys to pumping house-infused treats designed for the dancefloor. His unconventional approach to music is what makes him stand out, as his creative process is strongly influenced by his mood, emotions and random moments of inspiration.

Aside from numerous independent materials on Bandcamp, in 2023 he launched Future Electronics to serve as his playground for vinyl releases, slowly evolving the label to also function as an events series dubbed FUEL, which debuted this year at Club Guesthouse on June 7th. The next showcase parties are scheduled to take place in Romania, the USA, Spain and Italy.

Side A opens with the title track “Punisher Braila”, a heavy-hitting house cut with a gritty, minimal tech edge, dominated by recurrent raw vocal slices that break the rhythm and swinging phased synth layers that add extra groove as they come in and out of focus. Following, “Nights” drifts in with the same captivating fluidity, covering a broad spectrum of electronic styles. Here, the rumbling bassline sounds like a throttling motor engine while low-end textures echo throughout the whole piece.

On the flip we first find “Sash”, a meticulously layered track with an ever-evolving narrative that combines uplifting house beats with brooding undertones, wobbling synths, twisted effects and hip-hop vocal samples, creating tension with each measure. Closing the EP, “Let’s Chat” drops a thumping sound fueled by pounding sub hits, shimmering tones and fractured rhythmic bursts that smoothly intertwine with the vocal sample. The rough-edged drive hits with such intensity, it’s impossible not to get swept away and start moving within moments. A highly recommended 12″ right here, no doubt!
