Vincent Casanova – Northern Lights (w. Ajaks remix) [Sono Unica]

The upcoming vinyl-only release from the Swedish label Sono Unica features three original cuts signed by Vincent Casanova and a slick remix from co-founder Ajaks. Titled “Northern Lights”, the record marks the 5th instalment in the venture’s catalogue, with previous entries delivered by Costin Rp, Cosmjn, Sepp and Nu Zau. The mastering is provided by Mike Grinser at Manmade Mastering, while the artwork is the result of a collaboration between Xen Pop and Ajkr Studios.

Vincent Casanova is an American‐born, New York‑educated DJ and producer who’s been active in the underground electronic scene since around 2000. Originally a drummer and guitarist, he transitioned to synthesisers, drum machines and processing tools, bringing a strong rhythmic touch and lush textures to his work. Since his debut on Sifted Recordings in 2004 with “Subtropical EP”, he has constantly delivered memorable releases in collaboration with labels like Epsilonlab, Archipel, Miniatura, Tzinah, Subtropical, Pirka, Satya, Kanja, Heisenberg, Simple Things, move and understand, and Wowie Music, among others. In 2018, he launched his own label, Stay Random Natasha, publishing some of his music as well as materials from like-minded artists, including Tito Mazzetta, Bexu, Fulvio Cala, Nicolas Bouzas, Spiri:tual and Odette.

Side A opens with the title track “Northern Lights”, a vibrant composition powered by bubbling synth arpeggios, a wobbling bassline, playful bell chords and steady-paced drumming patterns, making the track perfect for the upcoming summer festivals and open-air events. Following, “Home Alone” lays out a breezy sound showcasing Casanova’s ability to blend minimal aesthetics with emotive layering. A rolling bassline anchors the groove into a hypnotic rotation while dubby, atmospheric chords add a warm, introspective mood to the whole journey.

On the flipside we first find “Trans AM”, a deep tech-house cut that keeps the momentum going from the A‑side with crisp percussion, a driving bassline and weaving background textures that create a dreamy resonance. Closing, Ajaks‘ reinterpretation of A2 heightens the moodiness and groove of the original, creating a sense of space and immersion typical of late-night sets.
