feeder sound exclusive premiere: Lascu – Sleepyhead EP [Elévar Records]
After releasing on multiple labels such as Buta Records, Edo, Utro, Eleutheria Records and many others, Romanian artist Lascu wanted to create his original signature sound.
Dedicated to this quest, he founded his first label, Tanapa Records and started to work with various DJs and producers worldwide, setting up a small community where he promotes sets and tracks.
After a few years, he came to realise that his work wasn’t appreciated enough by other communities or labels, so he decided to create his new label, Elévar Records, focused on releasing only his productions. Building on his signature sound, Lascu wants to deliver original, high-quality deep and dark sounds combined with the old Romanian folkloric instruments, eerie soundcapes and effects. The first release is titled “Sleepyhead EP” and provides four immersive tracks with different but intertwined vibes.
“The story of Elévar’s first release came out of nowhere. I was listening to some old Romanian folkloric songs, and then I had the idea to do something different. Starting with some dark, eerie atmospheres and soundscapes, getting that low, dark sound combined with some more lively percussions, the idea came alive. So from that moment, I thought to myself that this is what I want to do. Building up my own signature sound, something to bring back some memories from when I was a child in my grandma’s house. Having that passion for folklore since a young age, after I got a bit older, I found my passion for underground music, and for years, I wanted to create a unique sound.” – Lascu
Connected by the artist’s vision yet unfolding distinct rhythms and textures, each track reveals an enveloping sonic journey that rumbles through the frequencies. The title track “Sleepyhead” opens the EP with a driving, low-slung groove infused with broken beats here and there, while the background textures create a sense of an ongoing mystery that’s about to be revealed. Following, today’s exclusive premiere “Meddo” dives deep into minimal techno, unleashing a thumping beat complemented by dark tones and a twisted vocal sample, making this piece perfect for dimly lit dancefloors.
“Zefara” switches gears for a more mechanical sound where the percussion is fueled by bleeps and glitches, while the background atmospheres maintain a sizzling humming throughout. Closing, “Deja Dus” offers a stripped-down composition where the shuffling percussive patterns can make anyone start moving their body in seconds and enter a contemplative mood at the same time.
